OBJECTIVE
A Brand New Food Discovery Experience
The project focused on revamping the search functionality within the OpenRice app to create a more robust and intuitive user experience. Leveraging AI and big data, the new search capabilities learn from user reviews and photos, delivering results across multiple dimensions of content, including restaurants, offers, photos, videos and articles.
Our goal is to surface relevant and rich content that helps users find restaurants that match their preferences and ultimately drive business conversions.
CHALLENGE
Balance Rich Content with User Focus
OpenRice boasts a wealth of rich content; however, the challenge lies in effectively surfacing these various content types without losing focus. We must guide users through their individual journeys, addressing their specific needs while ultimately driving business conversions. Balancing the presentation of diverse content such as restaurant information, offers, photos, videos and articles — requires a strategic approach to ensure that users remain engaged and can easily find what they are looking for.
SOLUTION
Structured Navigation
I first organized content into distinct tabs: restaurant list, offer list, media list, and article list. Each UI design was tailored to promote business conversions like table reservations and voucher purchase. Additionally, I implemented related content blocks to encourage users to explore different lists further.
Smart Food Discovery Through Browsing
The browsing journey adapts based on whether users start with a location or a cuisine. If users begin with a location, they are presented with options for the most popular dishes in that area, determined by big data and AI insights into user preferences. Conversely, if users start with a particular cuisine, such as Japanese, they receive recommendations for more specific food types, like Sushi, Ramen etc. This approach facilitates a seamless and engaging discovery experience tailored to individual preferences.
SOLUTION
Advanced Search Functionality
To cater to users with specific criteria in mind, I implemented a robust filtering system that enables users to refine their searches based on various parameters. This feature ensures that users can easily find exactly what they're looking for, significantly enhancing their overall experience. Moreover, the user experience remains consistent across both mobile and desktop platforms, providing seamless navigation and accessibility, regardless of the device.
